Why are we called Chi Alpha?

Despite our name, we’re not a fraternity or a sorority.  We get our name from 2 Corinthians 5:20 – it says, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.“

In Latin, “Christ’s Ambassadors” is christou apostoli.  Our name is an Greek acrostic using the first letters of christou (chi) and apostoloi (alpha).  The Greek letters Chi (X) and Alpha (A) are the initials of this phrase, which reminds us that we should live as representatives of Jesus.  We are part of a larger ministry network that spans across the Pacific Northwest, as well as the nation! What is our vision?

Chi Alpha is more than just a mid-week service on campus.  We are a community of believers who are on a journey with Jesus, doing our best to figure out how to represent Christ in class, be His presence in the residence halls, and live with a hope-inducing witness to the rest of campus.  We aren’t perfect, but we look to the Spirit to help us embody five focuses of the Christian life:  discipleship, worship, fellowship, prayer and mission.  So if you’re looking for a Christian group at the University of Idaho, we’d love to meet you and include you in our weekly rhythms.
